Ryan ~ Senior Photo Session

Seniors are one of my favorite types of photo sessions. Teens are just so fun! They usually enjoy getting their pictures taken, they have great posing ideas, they have plenty of time to goof off and be silly in front of the camera; so we always get great shots because they’re not rushing to be finished. This particular photo session means more to me than anything else I’ve done to date. No offense to any of my past clients, but he’s my son. My only child. I still can’t believe he just graduated from high school!

Usually when I’m looking through my camera lens during a photo shoot, I’m thinking about aperture and shutter speed and focus. But this day, I was thinking about the little boy that used to have trouble pronouncing his L’s and the fact that I will no longer be spending my days homeschooling him. I remember very clearly the days of teaching him to walk, and now he’s driving a car.

Usually when I’m editing photos, I’m thinking about contrast and cropping and clarity. But this day, I was thinking about how much he looks like his dad. They have the same eyes. Eyes that I don’t even need to edit, because they’re perfect just the way they are.

Time is fleeting; that’s for sure. I’ve been feeling many emotions lately as I think about the journey our family has been on for the past 18 years. Mostly I feel grateful and blessed. What a privilege I have been given to be Ryan’s mother.
